Sourdough Chocolate Cookies

   1      cup                sourdough start
   1      each               egg -- beaten
   1/2  cup                  melted shortening
   2      cups                flour
   1      cup                 brown sugar
   5      Tablespoons   cocoa
   1      teaspoon         baking powder
   1      teaspoon         soda
   1/2  teaspoon          salt

Blend the dry ingredients together. Mix the start, egg and shortening together then add the dry ingredients and stir well. Add nuts if you like. Spoon onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
