Dutch Oven Carmel Nut Pudding 

    Dutch Oven Carmel Nut Pudding  

                                                      
1        Tablespoon    butter
1/2     cup                 milk
1/2     teaspoon         nutmeg
1/2     cup                 nuts
1/2     teaspoon         soda
1/2     cup                 sugar
1        cup                 sifted flour
1        pinch               salt
1        cup                 date bits or raisins
1        teaspoon         vanilla
Sauce:
1        cup                  brown sugar
2        Tablespoons     butter
2        cups                 boiling water

Cream together the butter and white sugar. Add milk, flour, soda, nutmeg and salt. Mix into a smooth batter. Add the date bits or raisins and nuts. Pour into a greased Dutch oven. Combine the brown sugar, butter and boiling water for sauce and pour over to of the batter. (Do not stir). Bake with coals on top and bottom for 10-15 minutes. Remove from coals and continue baking until done. Approximately 10-15 minutes more. Good served with ice cream or whipped cream.
